A civic service project focusing on languages and cultural diversity
Based in Lyon, the Caravane des dix mots is an artistic, cultural and linguistic project that uses the French language as a tool for bringing people together, for self-expression and for dialogue between cultures.
Since its creation in 2003, the association has been developing projects in France and internationally. Its network brings together artists, cultural organisations and local stakeholders across five continents.
Today, the Caravane des dix mots is looking to welcome a new civic service volunteer to contribute to its various awareness-raising and mediation initiatives.ation culturelle.
A mission to reach out to the public
The volunteer will take part in the association’s activities with a variety of groups: children, school pupils, students, professionals and the general public.
The aim? To create an environment that fosters self-expression, encourages dialogue and helps people discover the richness of languages and cultures.
During their placement, the volunteer will be able to take part in, amongst other things:
- workshops to raise awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity;
- artistic workshops focusing on languages and words;
- forums, debates and meetings;
- outreach activities aimed at different audiences;
- the preparation and implementation of cultural projects;
- the organisation of the association’s future events.
The placement also allows the volunteer to contribute their own ideas and perspective. The role description specifies, in particular, that their involvement should complement the work of the paid and volunteer staff, and that they may put forward new organisational, methodological or creative ideas.
Experience in the cultural and voluntary sectors
Joining the Caravane des dix mots as a civic service volunteer also means getting a behind-the-scenes look at a cultural organisation and playing an active part in developing projects.
Volunteers may therefore be asked to work on various aspects of community life: cultural mediation, activities, events, awareness-raising, communication and artistic projects.
This diversity offers an opportunity to develop new skills whilst gaining an insight into the workings of a cultural organisation involved in projects in France and abroad.
The Caravane des dix mots organises events focusing on languages, training courses and artistic projects, amongst other things. It also organises the Biennale des langues, the third edition of which took place in Lyon from 26 to 31 May 2026.
A Lyon-based organisation with a global outlook
Although the Caravane des dix mots team is based in Lyon, its project extends far beyond the Lyon area.
The organisation runs an international network of ‘Caravanes’ and supports artistic and cultural teams developing language-based projects in various regions. Since 2003, nearly 100 organisations have taken part in this venture.
For a young volunteer, this international dimension therefore offers the chance to discover projects that bring together different practices, languages and cultures.
